Moving Soon

This site will be soon moved to another server due to my expiring account with the current hosting company. In due course, you will not be able to access this site. At that time you may want to open up a command prompt, and as the TMNET customer support always mentioned, flush your DNS cache by typing in this command:

ipconfig /flushdns

And all will be well.

The new home will be cozy, with bigger disk space and bandwidth. So far the support is fine too.

Police At Work

Nothing much in this post, just sharing a photo of the police guys that caused me to be late today. Yes, I start work at 15:00.

The location is the freeway into Putrajaya from Puchong, just before the left turn to Putrajaya. Straight ahead are Dengkil and Cyberjaya. (This road is parallel with ERL lines).

Cyberjaya Cops

Nothing wrong with what they do, it’s their job, just pissed off a little with them 😉

4 lanes becoming 1 lane is too much even for this empty-most-of-the-time road.

Free KFC For E.T.

I’m not sure whether all of you have ever heard or even knew E.T.? He (it) is an ugly looking creature from a movie when I was a kid.

KFC has recently changed their logo for the 3rd time since it was ever designed. And guess what did they do? They built a massive 87,500 sq ft logo!

KFC From Space

The logo, which are built with 65,000 tiles took 24 days to finish, and is located near Area 51 in Nevada. I’ve tried looking for it in Google Maps but I guess it’s not there yet.

More news can be read here, and here.

Something that I really wanted to know but too lazy to ask:

The late Col Sanders, who died at the age of 90 in 1980, introduced his Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe at his own restaurant in 1939. He went on to run a chain of restaurants and developed celebrity status after appearing in his own, “finger-lickin’ good” TV commercials.

Now I know Col Sanders is not a fictional character like Hello Kitty. 😉

Bye Michael Lai, Hello Zainab Hashim

Zainab Hashim? Who’s that? That’s the new TMNET CEO. Well, acting CEO.

Telekom Malaysia Bhd said in a statement that the company was in the process of looking for a suitable successor as the present CEO, Michael Lai would be leaving his current position to pursue an external career opportunity.

Zainab, who has been with TM Net since 2001, would serve in the acting capacity during the transitional period, the statement said.

She has been with Telekom Malaysia for the last 28 years serving in various capacity and her experience covers a broad spectrum of telecommunications and multimedia business.

Oh my oh my… only one thing comes to mind when a company CEO quits… (use your imagination). I do not need to comment.

As for Zainab, good luck. I really hope that she will be able to solve TMNET woes. Really. Not the other way round.

Creative Zen Neeon

Yesterday I received a free Creative Zen Neeon 512MB in a goodie bag distributed to all my department staff at work. Although I have never really wanted an MP3 player* this is a pleasant surprise indeed.

Formal Picture of Creative Zen Neeon

512MB is not that big if you ask me, but the player actually comes in different models of 512MB, 1GB and 2GB. I charged it overnight via USB port, and this morning I did a test run with a few types of music. Having never used any hand-held MP3 player before, I’ve got to say that the sound quality is good. However I was a little disappointed to hear some noise from the right earpiece when playing the introduction MP3 preloaded with the device.

For AdSense users out there who are not subscribed in the blog update, Google AdSense site is down from 10am to 2pm PDT:

However by the time I am writing this, it’s already 2pm+ PDC but I think it’ll be up soon. As they suggested, maybe this will give you a chance to clear away those cobwebs you told friends were “Halloween decorations.” 😉

Do You Have Heart?

When your family ask you to bring you to KFC for a meal, would you say no? Do you have heart to say no, for whatever reason, if you child asked you to bring him/her to KFC?

I know, it would be dramatic and sad if you can’t afford it but what if you earn RM7000+ per month? A simple meal at KFC for 5 people would definitely cost less than RM100.00

This is a true story that happened last Ramadhan. Even worst, it was for break fast (buka puasa). The father responded: “No. Do you think KFC is cheap?“.

I ask you again. Do you have heart?

Cuba bayangkan seorang ayah, bila diajak anak-anak untuk makan KFC berbuka puasa, menjawab: “Korang ingat KFC murah ke?“. Sedangkan kita tahu yang beliau bergaji besar?

Sampai hati ke?

Tun Dr Mahathir Warded at Institut Jantung Negara

Poor Tun. He’s now recovering from a mild heart attack in IJN. I heard the attack was following a Hari Raya open house party the previous night (the attack came on Thursday morning).

I am not going to comment about his political views or anything, especially for a man that is 3 times older than myself. But if I hear anything else about the issues with our current PM I will definitely think that he needs the rest after so many years working on developing Malaysia. It’s time for him to enjoy the rest of his life, with his family and friends…

Right, Tun? Hope you get well soon, and please take it easy.

New Nose on Long Lost Friends?

Ever since my other half started to do her online business, she has been contacting all her long lost friends – friends dated back from her high school, friends from her University, even her hometown childhood friends. One friend in particular she claimed had rhinoplasty right after she finished high school. Not many can vouch for the truth but close friends admitted that her nose did look different. Now my spouse is planning to have a get together with her rhino-girlfriend just so she can squeeze the improved nose of her friend herself, simply to feed her curiosity on how rhinoplasty nose surgery resulted in.

Oh, BTW they do have a procedure to revise the surgery in case the surgeon did a bad job on your too crooked, twisted nose. Check out rhinoplasty nose surgery. The witch who gave poison apple to Snow White might need to consider it?

Internet Marketing Goes Wild

Technology is a huge keyword in the world we live in today. More and more types of businesses are going online for promoting their products and services.

For example nowadays, businesses that we thought would never go online has already made attempts to have websites and online promotions, or as we usually say it “Internet presence”. For example, www.bungatelur.com specializes in Malaysian wedding items – something traditional that we have never imagined would be possible online. I’ve contacted the business owner and found that there are actually a lot of businesses coming through from the web!

With all these interests in having Internet presence, new opportunities are also blooming for web design and development companies that provides services for website building. Even myself is having some contractual projects for building websites for all kinds of businesses.

Moreover, some companies or site has introduced specialized services for certain types of businesses to have Internet presence. One good example would be this site called Surgeon Advisor which is targeted for plastic surgeons to market their services in the Internet. Simply termed, I call it Internet marketing for doctors.

Does your business have Internet presence yet?

The Correct Way To SPAM

Some of us might say that there’s no right way to send spams. I partially agree especially the spams contains useless information but I do sometimes receive spams that contains interesting things and products.

Spambots is a no no. But living in Malaysia I receive quite a number of people sending emails promoting their valid services and products. I don’t like it but if you can’t stop it you have to live with it.

Some rules that is acceptable under my own considerations are:

Rule 1: anti virus

Use anti virus in your computer where you send the emails from.

Rule 2: recipients

NEVER put recipients email addresses inside the To: field. Instead, use the Bcc: field. This way, the recipient will still receive your email and know who is it from. Why? This is because 100% of the times, your recipient are not related to each other. You have no rights to reveal other people’s email addresses to the public. This also increases the chances of email viruses to propagate and send emails to thousands of people. You can control your PC but not the recipient’s.

Let’s say you send an email to user A, B, and C by putting them in the To: field, and user B is a nest of virus. The viruses in user B’s PC will be able to see user A and C email addresses and propagate themselves. This will not happen if you send using Bcc: field, where user B’s PC will only be able to see your email address and sends viruses to you. Hey, that’s the risk you have to take. You can always send an email with the From: address is not yours or make up any address but I am not going to teach that here.

Rule 3: sender

Always use your real name as sender. Use something like “special promotion” or “tawaran hebat” will definitely make sure your email end up in Junk boxes.

Rule 4: subject

Don’t use weird character like the underscore (_), quotes, or even to the extreme: normal brackets. Spams usually will try to avoid spam filters by masking words. For example a spam promoting weight loss products use the word “we_ight“. This no longer works as spam filters have been made to detect these kinds of things.

So people, if you send emails using the general rules above I am more than willing to have a peek before deleting the emails.

Be safe.

Malaysia Prepaid War

The war has begun again. Yellow operator came out with www.thetruthaboutprepaid.com and the blue (purple?) operator came out with www.thetruthaboutprepaid.com.my. I wonder what the red operator will register.

For sure, the yellow operator must have some regrets for not registering the .com.my version of the domain.

While the yellow operator is being discreet about the domain it registered (or isn’t technical enough that a freelancer and an external company to handle such promotion):

Administrative Contact:

Sha Li Lim
Level 8, Menara IMC, 8, Jalan Sultan Ismail,
Kuala Lumpur, 50250

Phone: +60.60327186118
Email: [email protected]

The blue operator doesn’t seem to care:

As long as there’s no gunshot or people dying because of this I’ll just sit out of the war zone and enjoy the fun. I’m using postpaid (with neither operator) anyway.

What Kind Of Employee Are You?

My better half forwarded me an email containing this information. I am unsure of the source but reading through it made me realize that 99% of them (for my star) is in fact accurate.

This is mine:

Taurus Employee Profile (April 20 – May 20)

Taureans make some of the best employees. They are loyal, hardworking, and no-nonsense. They work methodically and follow projects through until they are complete. Some may appear to work a little too slowly-usually because they are so careful-but they will always finish what they start. They thrive on structure, schedules, and routine. You’ll find them doing the same exact thing at the same time every day. Taureans, however, are not exactly the malleable workers that they often appear to be. If they have to work in a chaotic environment, they won’t be happy and will be prone to child-like temper tantrums and stubbornness. They might react similarly if they have to work around ignorant people or at a job where there is no obvious potential for advancement. Taureans will be very unhappy if there isn’t a ladder for them to climb. Even in the worst situations, they will find a way to advance slowly, winning over the most difficult people who may stand in their way of progress. Taurus employees will only take so much patiently and happily before they feel they are being taken advantage of. They will gladly accept orders and do whatever dirty work needs to get done, but they expect rewards. They want material gain, salary increases, and the potential for more power. To make your Taurus employees happy, be sure to give them projects through which they will see tangible results-hopefully something that will allow them to express their unique creativity in addition to their practical side. They don’t want to feel mired in details for long periods of time. Make sure to schedule regular performance and salary reviews. This show of respect should keep them loyal to the company.
